Delivered by Claire Thomas (Kripa Devi) of Padma Yoga and Hannah Penn (Hari Om) of Sheffield Yoga School, this course will equip already qualified yoga teachers, with the skills to deliver Yoga Nidra safely and systematically. The course provides a progressive exploration of the eight stages of Yoga Nidra, ensuring that attendees understand the theory and science behind the technique, developed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati from the trantric practice of nyasa, and taught by the Bihar School of Yoga.

The course content includes:

  • The benefits of relaxation and pratyahara.
  • An introduction to the neuro-science of relaxation.
  • The history and origins of Yoga Nidra.
  • Theory and development of the eight stages of the practice.
  • The use of voice and language in Yoga Nidra.
  • Guidelines for teaching to different groups and levels of experiences.
  • The potential application of Yoga Nidra and responsibilities of the teacher.

The course will be delivered through:

  • Taught sessions & group discussion.
  • Smaller break-out groups & peer discussion.
  • Teaching practice & feedback.
  • Additional reading.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • competently deliver a 25-30 minute Yoga Nidra practice;
  • understand and teach all stages of the practice safely;
  • explain clearly to their students any aspect of the practice;
  • handle students' responses to the practice in class.

Successful completion of the course requires:

  • Full attendance at all six days (missed days will need to be made up, this may incur an additional cost for face to face days).
  • Daily practice of yoga nidra using specified recording (including submission of monthly reflections).
  • Satisfactory completion of all written and recorded coursework.
  • Satisfactory completion of the final live assessment of a 25-30 minute yoga nidra practice.

Taught over six days, face to face contact time totals 36 hours. In addition to contact hours, between classes, attendees are required to prepare and submit written work and audio recordings, along with undertaking a daily practice of yoga nidra. This constitutes around 6 hours of home study time each month. Total course commitment is in the region of 60 hours over six months.
